Synopsis: The Left Hand of Darkness tells the story of a lone human emissary to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants spend most of their time without a gender. His goal is to facilitate Winter's inclusion in a growing intergalactic civilization. But to do so he must bridge the gulf between his own views and those of the completely dissimilar culture that he encounters.
thoughts before reading
I've never read an Ursula K. Le Guin book before. I mean I know of Earthsea because of the Studio Ghibli film (that I haven't seen yet, whoops!). But aside from knowing of it, I've never read something of hers. So I'm happy to I now have the opportunity to read one of her novels. It'll be an interesting read tbh, but I'm quite keen.
thoughts while reading
Chapters 1 — 4
Chapter 1
Honestly... I'm a little confused. I wonder if I'm supposed to be? [future note: yes, yes I am]. There is also a lot of words being used that I actually don't know. But I imagine it must be a sort of... either it just being a book from the 1960s or I'm just illiterate haha!
Words needing to define: insipid lacking flavour; weak or tasteless.
,Chapter 2
This is a folk story essentially, I love the fact that it's a whole lot of world building tbh. Which is pretty fun.
